Fashion Revolution Day

“WHO MADE YOUR CLOTHES ” is the motto of the first FASHION REVOLUTION DAY in 2014. From this year on, always on the 24th of April people around the world will raise their voices for ethical working conditions. The initial driver for this event was the factory collapse in Bangladesh.

It is intended to contribute to an increasing awareness of the true cost of fashion and to show the world that change is possible, and thus everybody can contribute for a sustainable future.

The FASHION REVOLUTION DAY’s mission is to bring everyone together to achieve something big together.

The slogan “Who makes your clothes?” is a simple gesture asking to wear the clothing items inside out , so #InsideOut , to confront people and inspire them to ask this question themselves while buying clothing.

Of course, the day was also celebrated in the capital of Germany – Berlin. A flashmob was held to support the FASHION REVOLUTION DAY in public. It was organized, among others, by the dancers from the Flying Steps Academy in Berlin.

Have a look what happened at the event, we made a little short-cut especially for you!

“For us sustainability means that clothes should not be out of fashion after 6 months. We strive for a high degree of timelessness in our styles. For this reason, the FORMAT collection is partially independent of seasons”.

We think this is a great interpretation of sustainability, and also very, very, very nice people. For this reason we are proud to now be able to offer selected styles of the Berlin based designer label FORMAT in our shop. Check it out!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin 2014

This January the biannual Fashion Week in Berlin offered once more a diverse collection of fashion and lifestyle products.

Exciting and glamorous collections for the winter season 2014/15 could also be admired in the world of sustainable fashion and were presented in the Ethical Fashion Show and in the GreenShowroom. The prejudices towards organic and eco fashion of being out of touch with trends and old-fashioned are gone. These days the eco labels impress with stylish and avant-garde designs as well as contemporary materials, which can easily compete with the more well-known conventional brands. Furthermore upcycling was a topic strongly present at the Berlin Fashion Week, which proves that turning worn pieces into something new is a growing trend for the future. As we can see, old prejudices make way for new perspectives as the green fashion has far more to offer than what the masses expect. See for yourselves, here are outtakes from the salon shows at the GreenShowroom:

The interest in sustainable brands is constantly growing. And that is indeed a good thing. Sustainability and the social responsibility it involves are developing into an important part within the fashion industry – because today it is not only the outer values of clothing that matter but also the inner ones.

We are eagerly and curiously anticipating the next Berlin Fashion Week to come. There the summer collection 2015 will be presented to the public. It is especially the sustainable brands that we will take a look at.

EARTHBAG – the first crowdfunding project

Dear EARTHBACKers,

Last Friday we got started… and kicked off our crowdfunding project with Giang and Bastian on Startnext. Within 8 hours we received all the likes we needed, fab! We owe this all to you, thank you!

Now we’re on to the “financing stage” and our aim is to raise the funding sum that finances the production of the bag. We’ve raised more than 3,500 € so far.

Until 15/12/2013 you can help Giang and Bastian make this great project happen and contribute to making the world a greener place!

Just come along ;) and support a good cause!

Throw-away fashion

Hello EARTHBACKers,

The trend towards rapid production of cheap clothing and the consequent advance of new consumer habits have crept into our society.

Clothes – a product for daily consumption? There are more and more clothes to buy for less and less money. It does not hurt then to throw away a piece after only wearing it once. A new one can be bought the next day. A T-shirt only costs as much as a cup of coffee.

Is this possible if clothes are produced under fair and humane conditions? NO!

Now it is up to us all to wake up and question the deplorable production and working conditions under which our clothing is made!

If you missed the TV documentary “Throw-away fashion” last week, you can watch it via this link:
